POEM FOR MATTHEW ROHRER
shane jones
People say I am
humorously detached.
I change my look at work
on a regular basis.
Last week I had long hair and shaved daily.
This week I have short hair
and I'm not shaving.
Someone asked me if I was growing a beard
and I shrugged and said no.
I need to work out more.
You sure got comfortable here.
That's what my boss said.
Five push-ups is all I can do.
It rained seven times today
and I only said I love you once.
Hey you, show me a way
to live in this world
without feeling the fantastic guilt
of breaking all these little rules.
Walking along a concrete path
of bright green trees
I follow the smell of the ocean.
I'm wearing my best suit.
